The 2nd lot of 4 Chapters!

Hey Guys.

How is everyone going with it all? I'm getting into a bit of a system I think. Cereal first to wake me up. Then sit down with a coffee and read. ... ... I was going to write something. I'm actually pretty tired though. Maybe I might just go to bed and write something when i'm a bit sharper. I hope we all are managing it though we all live very busy lives.

A quote, "I have so much to do today, how can I not spend time with the Lord?"

All the best guys. Be prayin'...

  1. Hey guys, Kresto, going okay, I got my 4 chapters read after your farewell dinner last night, was tired but determined to read it before the day ended!! I found a few verses that struck me, but I'll have to leave it for another time as I have to go out now. Will come back and comment soon. That's an awesome quote by the way Kresto.:) xox Neen

  2. Yes i am finding i am slipping into a similar routine (minus the coffee). I find that reading the bible first thing in the morning prepares me for the rest of the day and i feel as though i've really accomplished something good and worthwhile.

I'm excited about posting today because i know i will be able to post my first thoughts, not my 6th or 7th!

Well the first thing that struck me about these chapters was the lifespan of the men! I mean i've always been aware of it but when you really stop and think its just phenomenal, i'm only 18 and already i feel like i've lived several different lifetimes. imagine looking back over 900 years, i mean that is literally several different lifetimes!

I was a bit confused by the mention of giants in Genesis 6:4. I'm guessing these were men of God from heaven...?

I think the image of Noah watching all those animals walk obediently into the ark is incredible. It's just crazy, we have enough trouble loading one horse into a horsefloat, i can't even begin to calculate the amount of animals going into that ark! Honestly, how awesome is our God?!

and just the sheer size of everything, that ark was MASSIVE and the flood covered the entire Earth! You hear what people say about the 'huge' floods we have these days, we can't even begin to comprehend what Noah experienced really.

Well i hope everyone is well, and i hope you were able to rest up Kresto. We will all be prayin' no doubt. Take care, talk to you all again tomorrow :)

  3. Hey, checking in for my daily posting...thought I'd comment on chapters 5 -8 on this post, and then post another post on the next chapters if noone else has?

I agree with all those points you made Kim, definitely boggles your mind, especially the lifespan of men in those days.

I loved how God set a rainbow in the sky as a covenant with the earth and men that He would never again flood the earth in that way...its amazing you can still look up and see the rainbow and think of God's promise. I wonder how many times God has wanted to break His promise - does anyone else wonder that? Not that He ever would, but I wonder if God has ever felt that way again, sorry He ever made Man in the first place. It must've broken His heart. :(

I thought it was pretty funny how Noah got drunk and was lying there in the nude, and then wakes up and realises someone saw him...serves him right I say....hmmm is that the right attitude?

About the men building the tower of Babel, it seems they were getting quite proud, with their plans and not including God in them, and thinking they were going great guns...guess that's why God decided to stop them in their tracks and confuse them. They were getting too smart for their own good. That's how I took it anyways.

I think that's all in these 4 chapters, but it was all interesting. These are the things that most stood out. Hope everyone else is enjoying the journey so far !

  4. Okay, well seeing my comment above was actually meant for chapters 9 - 11...duh. Well I will comment on what I found the most interesting on chapters 5 - 8 (actually, 5 - 7 cause I commented on 8 in the above comment too. anybody would think I'm pregnant!)

Ok, so on CHAPTERS 5 - 7 I am now commenting..

I loved the verse "Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away." Wow...what a thing to be able to say about someone..."such and such" WALKED WITH GOD...I want others to be able to say that of me one day - "That Nina, she walked with God!!" How cool would that be. To leave a legacy like that, if nothing else, that I walked with God. cool. That maybe should be one of the biggest aims of my life, to "walk with God" at all times, through the valleys as well as the mountains.

This verse 6:6 "The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain" - How very sad this is!! For God's heart to be filled with such pain that He ever made man. That He regreted His decision. And that He was grieved that He had to take such a dramatic step to wipe man off the face of the earth. It must have really pleased God to no end that even though almost all of man was wicked, there was one righteous one, Noah. Wow, to be like Noah.

Another thing, verse 6:22 "Noah did everything just as God commanded him." Noah was obedient to God's commands. Whatever God told Him to do, he did it! No fussing, no complaining. I'm sure he was confused, I'm sure he probably didnt' understand. He'd never even seen rain up until that point! But he trusted God. Fully and wholly and that's what made Him obey. And I bet he was so extremely happy he did when the flood came! Are we doing all God has commanded us to do? And without complaining or questioning or fussing?

Anyways, that's all for now, nighty night.

  5. Hey bloggers. Good to see were all keeping it up. I agree Kim, it's great feeling like we've done something worthwhile for the day getting that Bible reading done. I feel encouraged also to think that other friends are all reading the same thing.

I ws thinking of the lifespan of men to. Quite Long. I think of the earth being 10,000 years old; and most of the early fellas living over the 900's! Man, they've lived (like a tenth of the age of the earth?!) Another interesting point is how there lifespans start to slowly dwindle. "Such and such lived to (a long time) and he died, such and such lived to ( a long but not as long time), and such and such lived to (a lot shorter but still long time), it seems he is slowly moderating people's lifespans till they get to the 120 year mark. Ur thoughts?

Yeh, Noah... Hmm... "a man of the field" So the bloke builds a vineyard, makes some wine and gets drunk. I find it confusing how Noah's son Ham see's him, and tells his brothers. Brother's cover Noah (backwards so as to not see) and then Ham's son Caanan gets the curse! "Caanan be cursed and a servant to these people" (along those lines). When it doesn't even mention Caanan being there. I need to look into that one more i think. Noah was the one that got drunk anyhow.

The tower of babel. I just find it fascinating that @ that point... people spread over the whole earth. Just thinking of how many different races of people we have... all differing languages; And it was that point where it started. Even though the people were proud and doing wrong... I wonder if that was in Gods plan to fill the earth again?

Same about the rainbow nina... It started there, and is still here today...... hey thought of something... Thats when the rainbow started, and when we get to Heaven, there will be no reason for that covenant. The End of the Rainbow, and the City of Gold (or pot).

I'd love to comment more but time is slipping away. Cheerio people, I am looking forward to my coffee and reading!

  8. So, chapters 5 to 8...

First things that struck me was Eve's response to giving birth 'With the help of the LORD, I have brought forth a man.' In my human frame, I wonder whether God warned Eve the capabilities of her body....why her belly was in fact growing so large, and that the 'pains of labour' would bring forth a man? Hmm... Adam and Eve had so many '1sts' to experience. Even though they didn't make the wisest decisions always (clearly...), I wonder sometimes whether we would have done any better. Speaking for myself, I doubt it. (Ooops, that was chapter 4... but still, I wonder).

I love that we were made in the image of God, as stated in verse 1 of chapter 5. We have the capability to reflect HIM daily... our lives are perhaps the biggest witness of all.

I agree Kimmy, these men lived a long time! Goodness. Noah was 500 when he became a father to Shem, Ham and Japheth! Yeah, Kresto I noticed how the lifespans gradually dwindle -- with the exception of a couple along the way, such as Methuselah. I guess to get to the lifespan of man now - it had to occur. I wonder if the sin of man increased as the world got older, therefore reducing lifespan? But, a sin, is a sin, is a sin. No worse, or better than another. So that theory doesn't stand very well.

Noah's Ark is one of my favorite stories in the Bible... Im not sure why. I think it is because I had a picture book as a child, that had beautiful illustrations of the animals and the ark.... It truely is an amazing story of God's deliverance, love - but also of His righteous anger coupled in His grief for His fallen creation. The Lord regretted creating human beings. Wow, that is a pretty huge statement. I love the promise that He gave to Noah though... A promise visible - I think would take the form of a rainbow. Interesting thought Kresten.. I guess there will be no need for a rainbow when we get to heaven. But they are so beautiful, surely they would be in Heaven. If God is capable of a rainbow on earth though (and He is..) - imagine what He is capable of in Heaven :)

Well, it is getting late. Night guys..
