Hey all, how was your days? Don't know about you, but mine was very busy and full. BUT I did find time to read the 4 chapters - while I was sitting for 2 hours at pathology at the hospital where I had to have a blood test. So glad I brought my Bible!
Few things that struck me in these next lot of chapters were....oooooooooooh dear. I've just realised I commented on Chapters 5 - 8 post by Kresten, with my comments which were actually meant for Chapters 9 - 12. DUH Nina. Oh well, this will be a short post then. My thoughts on Chapters 9 - 12 were the ones I posted in the last post's comments. Ok, well goodnight then :)
Sweet dreams!

you are most funny and corrective of yourself nina. I shall read your other posts regarding 5-12. How long till that bub pops out? 9 weeks? We all woulda read 'bout 250 chapters by then. Phew!
ReplyDeleteChapters 9-12... hmm...
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how much more you can learn from the bible by actually studying it, and searching for answers and not just giving it a quick read, as I usually do.
Well... were all the animals tame when God created them? Not that it's important or anything, just interesting. When God brought the animals before Adam so that he could name them all and in the ark also they would have to have been friendly I guess. It says in 9:2, when God's making his covenant to Noah:
"The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands."
Does that mean before that time all the animals were friendly? I can understand why they became not-so-friendly - because we started eating them. Fascinating...
As per conversation with Kresten the other night, I became confused about the incident where Ham "saw his father's nakedness". This site has an interesting explanation:

Otherwise I guess we'll have to ask God when we meet Him about that one (I use that excuse for all of scripture that I don't understand!)
Hmmm... Nimrod was a mighty hunter.
I found it interesting, when Abram lied about Sarai being his sister and not his wife to the Egyptians, that he got a load of stuff from pharoah, like sheep, cattle, donkeys, camels and servants. haha! Even though Abram lied, it was like God was making him rich! I think pharoah and the Egyptians may not have been the nicest people, since Abram thought that they would kill him to take his wife, and maybe in the broader view of it all God was just transferring the riches to the person that deserved it more - Abram, and taking it from the wicked pharoah, if he was indeed wicked, as his stereotype usually suggests.
Well that's all.
I to find it interesting that Abram gets blessed when he lies to Pharoah. Also, I find it quite disturbing to think of letting your wife go to other men for the reason of not getting killed. I would like to think of myself sticking up for my wife if someone wanted her; And I would feel ashamed if i had to get my wife to lie on my behalf, and then receive all this good stuff from the episode. Interesting thought reegs, about God transferring the riches to the one who needed it more, Ha... pharoah certainly got axed bad!
ReplyDeleteI was chatting to dad about the lying thing. He mentioned that Sarai was sonehow actually half sister to Abram. No doubt we will come across this in later readings. So technically speaking, if that is true, They weren't lying. So there are a few things to consider.
Hmmm, yes, nimrod was a mighty hunter...
Hey everyone. Wow this site is on fire! Great to see how enthusiastic everyone is :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Nina (in comments meant for this section :-P) about if God ever wishes He could break His covenant. I know He wouldn't but what's stopping Him really, i mean He only has to answer to Himself. I guess He is the greatest example of what it means to avoid temptation.
I really like how the languages were spread throughout the world. And i find it really exciting how evident that is today. But as easy as it is for us to see it today, can you imagine how it would have been for them back then trying to comprehend the existance of so many different tongues and countries!
yes it is interesting how the lifespan slowly wound down. Mum made an interesting point about adam, back when they lived for yonks and yonks, how he was still alive for the first 50 odd years of Lamech's life!
I find Abram's actions confusing as well. But then again i think they prove a point. Abram was foolish and did not trust the Lord to protect him so he lied and brought great suffering to others. While he doesn't appear to have been punished for his actions, but rather rewarded, i think that his conscience would have weighed pretty heavily on him.
Mum and i were discussing Abram's actions and we thought it was a great symbolism of how dangerous it is to live in fear, not only for yourself but also for others. it is so simple really, Proverbs 29:25 sums it up perfectly,
"The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe." :-)
i guess this demonstrates how, even though it may be scary and look hopeless, when you trust in the Lord and take that leap of faith, the rewards you gain thereafter will far outweight any gained while living in fear.
hmm that is interesting that they might have been half brother and sister. But i guess seeing as she was first and foremost his wife, saying she was just his sister was a half truth, and seeing as there are no half truths...
hahaha ahhh Nimrod the mighty hunter, man he must've been pretty good!
Have a great day everyone :-)
These chapters were interesting...
ReplyDeleteInteresting thought about the tame animals Reegs... I guess they were. They wouldn't have a need to be scared of humans as God's original plan for humans seemed to be plant based, until the fall. I guess they got pretty cluey pretty quickly... If an animal is left to it's own devices, I guess they would be naturally wary of humans. It is interesting that some are able to be tamed though, as long as trust is upheld in the relationship.
Yeah, I was curious why Abram would say Sarai was a sister rather than his wife, as she was. I also had a discussion with dad....and he mentioned about Sarai being Abram's half sister. So, yes technically they weren't lying - just not disclosing the complete situation (I wonder if they were asked?). And true Kim, there is no such thing as a 'half truth' or a white lie... they all equate the same. I wonder why Abram felt threatened in the way that he was, and felt the need to say Sarai was his sister? Perhaps though, Abram just knew he would be treated in the grand way that he was if he was Sarai's brother, rather than husband. Perhaps is was a customary. Another point dad mentioned was incest (hmm...). But he mentioned there was no law against incest until Moses' time, around 1000 years post creation and the law only came into being due to God knowing the deterioration in the genetic codes - and how it would now be dangerous for the offspring of people closely related to marry. In the time of Abram and Sarai - it was a necessity to marry family rather than choice I guess.
I agree with Kresten.... I know that I would want my husband to stand by me in a situation like this....in any situation. How scary for Sarai.
I love your point about taking a leap of faith Kim. So true... in life sometimes that is all God requires of you, that initial leap and He does the rest. But that first leap, and having complete faith that what God is asking of you is good - can be one of the hardest things you'll ever do. But the rewards so, so great.
I hope you're all having a relaxing Saturday. Kresten just left for Emerald...hmm. He'll be back though, more than we realise I think - hey bro:) Anyone keen on a roadtrip sometime? ;)
